Turkey Travel Advice: Euro Payments and eSIM for German Visitors

German tourists in Turkey can often pay with euros in popular destinations such as Antalya, Bodrum and Side, where signs display the euro symbol. However, the Turkish lira remains the official currency and the exchange rate (1 € ≈ 53 TRY as of July 2026) makes euro payments less economical for most purchases. Some tour operators list prices in euros to shield travelers from inflation and lira depreciation, but using local currency usually yields better value.

Because Turkey is not part of the EU, EU roaming rules do not apply, and using a German mobile plan can incur high data charges. An eSIM, such as those offered by Airalo, can be activated before departure, providing affordable data packages without roaming fees. Promo codes NETZWELT15 and NETZWELT10 give 15% and 10% discounts on Airalo eSIM purchases, allowing visitors to stay online for navigation, photo sharing and communication while avoiding costly roaming traps.
