Turkey implements new transport and scooter regulations

New regulatory amendments published in the Official Gazette of Turkey have introduced significant administrative fines and stricter oversight across several transportation and technology sectors.

In the electric scooter sector, shared service operators face a tiered penalty system. Violations regarding vehicle numbers in specific regions can lead to fines of 8,687 TL for the first offense, 86,900 TL for the second, and 170,000 TL for the third. A third violation also triggers a six-month suspension of operations. Other penalties include 86,900 TL for operating without proper permits and 50,000 TL for failing to provide required documentation during inspections.

The transportation sector also sees updated sanctions. Transport business organizers face fines up to 50,000 TL for various regulatory breaches. In the railway sector, the transport of dangerous goods is subject to heavy penalties, including 170,903 TL for failing to employ a safety consultant and up to 4,263,586 TL for specific high-level violations involving senders and carriers.

Additionally, the regulations expand the capabilities of Technology Transfer Offices in higher education institutions, allowing them to establish and operate industrial and commercial production facilities to better commercialize research and development outputs.
