Turkey updates HGS toll violation inquiry and payment system

Turkey has implemented significant changes to the Fast Pass System (HGS) regarding the inquiry and payment of toll violation debts for highways and bridges. Under the new regulations, the previous method of querying and paying debts by simply entering any vehicle license plate has been discontinued.

To enhance security and prevent unauthorized inquiries, users must now undergo identity verification through the e-Devlet portal. Consequently, drivers can only view and pay violation debts for vehicles registered under their own names. This change specifically impacts individuals who borrow vehicles from friends or family members; if a violation occurs while driving someone else's car, the driver can no longer settle the debt directly via the plate number. Instead, the transaction must be completed through the registered owner's e-Devlet account.

Furthermore, the payment process has moved to web browsers. Currently, the option to pay HGS violation debts is not available within the e-Devlet mobile application, requiring users to access the service via a mobile or desktop internet browser. Vehicle owners are advised to monitor their accounts regularly through the 'My Vehicles' section on e-Devlet to avoid additional penalties.
