Turkey updates Private Pension System with higher state contributions

Turkey has introduced significant reforms to its Private Pension System (BES) to increase its attractiveness and flexibility. A primary change is the increase in the state contribution rate, which has been raised from 25 percent to 30 percent.

New regulations also address lump-sum payments. Participants who exceed the annual minimum wage limit for contributions within a single calendar year can now carry over the excess amount to future years to qualify for state contributions. Additionally, the system now allows for partial withdrawals for specific life events, such as marriage, housing purchases, or education, without requiring participants to exit the system entirely.

Furthermore, the age restriction for the Automatic Enrollment System (OKS) has been eased. Employees over the age of 45, who were previously ineligible, can now join the system upon their own request.
