Turkey updates railway passenger rights and regulations

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has enacted new regulations regarding the rights of passengers traveling by railway, as published in the Official Gazette.

A key change involves the minimum validity period for open tickets issued due to canceled or delayed trips. The minimum required duration for these tickets has been reduced from 180 days to 90 days. While this sets a new legal minimum for operators, it does not necessarily prevent tickets from being valid for longer periods.

Additionally, the definition of “vehicle” within the regulation has been expanded to include scooters and electric scooters, alongside existing categories such as strollers, bicycles, and mopeds. The new rules also establish an administrative fine of 9,473 Turkish Lira for each identified violation of the regulation.
