Turkey urges UN to stop Israeli violations in Syria

Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, addressed the UN Security Council regarding the situation in Syria. Yıldız stated that while Syria is making progress toward normalization, continuous violations by Israel are undermining these positive developments.

He highlighted recent legislative steps in Syria, such as the People's Assembly transitioning into a fully functional legislative body and the unanimous approval of a proposal to abolish terrorism courts from the Assad era. Yıldız also expressed support for the Syrian government's efforts to work with international partners and the global coalition to permanently defeat ISIS, noting the need for international support to strengthen Syria's security institutions.

Regarding regional security, Yıldız criticized Israeli military interventions and expansionist actions, particularly in southern Syria. He specifically noted military raids in the Quneitra province and the digging of military trenches parallel to the Golan Heights as part of the 'Sufa 53' project. He called for an end to these actions, urging Israel to respect Syria's sovereignty and the 1974 agreement.
