Gaziantep tunnel accident leads to one death and three detentions
A fatal construction accident occurred at the Dülük Tunnel site in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep. The incident, which took place on September 10, 2026, involved the flexing of iron scaffolding used to stabilize concrete, causing workers to become trapped between the iron and the scaffolding.
The Gaziantep Governor's Office confirmed that while no tunnel collapse occurred, the accident resulted in the death of one worker and injuries to five others. Emergency teams, including AFAD and UMKE, responded to the scene to provide medical assistance.
Following the tragedy, the Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a formal investigation. Preliminary reports have led to the detention of three company officials, identified as F. A., İ. B., and Y. U. K., for their alleged roles in the incident.
