Turkey boosts rural fire protection with new tankers and community initiatives
In the village of Kuzköy near Çorum’s İskilip district, native Mustafa Arık donated a fire‑fighting tanker, allowing residents to tackle forest and house fires quickly. Local leaders praised the addition, noting it will also serve neighboring villages.
Retirees Fikret Çırakoğlu and Veysel Tamusta in Ayvalık installed 20‑litre water bottles along a busy forest road, labeling them for fire use. The 15‑bottle stations are spaced 200 metres apart, with plans to add more as supplies allow.
The Kütahya Organize Industrial Zone fire brigade, together with forest and municipal fire services, swiftly contained brush and forest fires in the villages of Beşkarış and Aydınlar, emphasizing public vigilance during the summer fire season.
In Karabük, the Zonguldak Forest Regional Directorate delivered 164 water‑spray tankers to forest villages in a ceremony attended by Governor Oktay Çağatay. The distribution aims to raise early‑intervention capacity and reduce the impact of increasing forest fires.
