Turkey weather alerts: Storms and swimming bans across multiple provinces
Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü has issued widespread weather warnings across Turkey, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Significant storm activity is expected in the Marmara and Aegean regions, with wind speeds potentially reaching 60-80 km/h. Rainfall is predicted to be particularly heavy in the Black Sea regions, including Ordu, Giresun, Rize, and Artvin, as well as parts of the Mediterranean and Eastern Anatolia.
Due to high wave heights and dangerous currents, local authorities have implemented temporary swimming bans at numerous coastal locations. Restrictions are in effect for beaches in Bartın, Trabzon, Sakarya (Karasu, Kocaali, and Kaynarca), Zonguldak, Tekirdağ, and several districts in Istanbul, including Şile, Arnavutköy, Beykoz, and Sarıyer.
In Giresun, heavy rains have already caused flooding and landslides, leading to overflowing streams and damage to local infrastructure, including a hydroelectric plant in the Yağlıdere district. Authorities have warned citizens to remain vigilant against sudden floods, landslides, and falling trees.
