Turkey weighs gradual retirement plan as EYT doubts linger

Turkey's Parliament is reviewing an omnibus bill that could affect the pension system, but current drafts do not contain a provision for a gradual retirement scheme (kademeli emeklilik) for workers who first entered Social Security after 8 September 1999. Advocates hope the law could be amended to introduce step‑wise age increases, ultimately reaching 65 years, for those insured between 1999 and 2008 who missed the earlier EYT (Emeklilikte Yaşa Takılanlar) reform.

Separately, SGK experts warn that early‑career insurance entries made in a parent’s workplace before age 18 may be invalidated under SGK General No. 2013/11. This could strip affected persons of EYT benefits, erase premium days, and even jeopardise already‑received pension payments. Recent court rulings stress that actual work, not merely formal registration, determines entitlement, urging citizens to verify their records on e‑Devlet and seek legal recourse if necessary.
