Turkey witnesses protests by veterans supporting miners and taxi drivers over license‑plate auction

In Ankara’s Güvenpark, veterans and families of fallen soldiers gathered to back miners who have been on a 11‑day hunger strike. The demonstrators banged their helmets on the ground, chanting support for the miners and criticizing a parliamentary bill they say does not aid them. Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ visited the veterans, while Şehit Aileleri ve Gaziler Derneği president Erdem Çerçioğlu warned that the government’s neglect of workers’ rights would continue to spark unrest.

In Adana, members of the Service Vehicle Operators’ Chamber protested the municipal decision to auction new service‑vehicle licence plates. When they attempted to enter the municipality building, police intervened with pepper spray and dispersed the crowd. The protestors argued that the auction would disrupt their operations and demanded that the city reconsider the plan.
