Turkey's 15 July Association serves aşure to honor 253 coup martyrs
The 15 July Association organized a commemorative aşure (dessert) distribution to remember the 253 soldiers and civilians killed during the failed 2016 coup attempt. The program, held in Istanbul and Ankara, was prepared at the association’s headquarters in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent and later shared with worshippers at the Hz. Ali Mosque, Eyüp Sultan Mosque and Şuheda Mosque.
Association president İsmail Hakkı Turunç said the sweet served as “a symbol of our national unity” and emphasized the importance of passing the memory of the coup’s victims to future generations. He added that the event underscores the nation’s shared devotion to the flag and the Republic. The ceremony also featured remarks from the widow of a martyr, who recalled the night of the coup and praised the country’s resilience.
The distribution reflects the association’s ongoing effort to mark the decade‑long anniversary of the July 15 coup with cultural and religious activities that reinforce national solidarity.
