Turkey's 5G subscriber base reaches 44.5 million, half the population
On 1 April 2026 Turkey launched commercial 5G service. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that 21 million people were subscribed on the first day and that the figure rose to 44.5 million within roughly four months.
The rapid uptake means more than half of Turkey’s population now has 5G access. Uraloğlu said the technology will accelerate digital transformation across transport, industry, health, agriculture and smart‑city applications, adding, "5G, with ultra‑low latency and massive device capacity, will place Turkey at the centre of digital transformation."
