AFAD evacuates 464 households and roughly 15,000 residents in Tokat ahead of flood risk

Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi (AFAD) chief Ali Hamza Pehlivan inspected Tokat after the Yeşilırmak River rose and the Almus Dam reached full capacity, prompting flood‑risk measures. The agency coordinated with local authorities, the Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), police and the governor's office.

Approximately 464 households – covering about 15,000 people – were moved to safe areas and 850 residents were placed in public guest houses. Animal owners were also assisted, with the relocation of roughly 10,300 large livestock, 3,500 small livestock and 2,500 beehives. Around 250 emergency calls were logged, 206 of them concerning water‑related flooding, and teams responded to 42 businesses for reinforcement and evacuation.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported, and DSİ has completed flood‑protective reinforcements, including the demolition of the damaged ÇEDAŞ bridge and other structural works. The operation continues as water levels rise.
