Turkey's AFAD rolls out risk‑reduction projects and rescues missing citizen

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced a nationwide disaster risk reduction programme covering 51 sites in 18 provinces, including Eskişehir, Adana, Balıkesir and others. The projects involve constructing rock‑fall barriers, steel netting, retaining walls, slope cleaning, rock‑breakage and trenching to minimise loss of life and property, with the goal of reducing post‑disaster economic losses by up to sevenfold.

Separately, AFAD confirmed that a resident of Konya who had been missing for six days was located alive after intensive search efforts involving AFAD, gendarmerie, fire services and NGOs. The terrain was inaccessible by road, and the rescued individual was air‑lifted by a Ministry of Health helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
