Turkey's AFAD trains people with disabilities in disaster preparedness

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) held a hands‑on training session for people with disabilities in Kırşehir, Turkey. Participants examined an emergency kit for the first time and received instruction on appropriate actions during earthquakes, floods and fires, as well as basic search‑and‑rescue techniques.

Attendees reported enthusiasm after trying raincoats and thermal blankets, and highlighted the practical value of the briefing. Beyazay Kırşehir Branch Chairman Adnan Göçmen said the program, marking the 21st anniversary of the Disability Law, helps make vulnerable groups more aware of disaster risks.

The event was part of AFAD’s broader effort to extend emergency‑preparedness knowledge to all segments of society.
