Turkey's Agricultural Insurance System Pays 6.6 Billion Lira in Damage Support
The State‑Supported Agricultural Insurance System (TARSİM) disbursed 6.6 billion lira in damage compensation to Turkish farmers for losses caused by floods, hail, frost, storms and other climate‑related events during the January‑July 2024 period. In the same timeframe, 2 million insurance policies were issued, covering 1.1 trillion lira of agricultural assets, 24 million decares of land and 17.6 million livestock.
A total of 345 000 damage reports were received, 223 000 of which pertained to plant insurance. The most frequently reported crops were wheat, barley, apricot and grape, with the provinces of Malatya, Manisa, Diyarbakır and Konya leading the list. Regional weather events such as heavy rain in Şanlıurfa, Adana and Mersin, as well as localized hail and frost, contributed to the claims. TARSİM plans an additional 9.2 billion lira in payments as damage files are finalized.
