Turkey's Agriculture Sector Posts Record Revenue While Live Animal Import Costs Surge

Turkey imported 354,469 live animals in the first half of 2026, spending $320.98 million—nearly the total amount paid a year earlier for a larger volume. The per‑head cost rose to $1,254, driven by higher global prices for live cattle and other livestock, with Brazil and Uruguay remaining the main suppliers.

In 2025, Turkey's total agricultural revenue reached a historic $83.2 billion, the highest in the Republic’s history, according to World Bank data. This lifted the country to seventh place worldwide in agricultural output. Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı highlighted the achievement during a visit to the Sivrihisar Grain Office, noting Turkey’s continued leadership in European wheat production, world‑leading flour exports, and a strong position in pasta exports. The minister also pointed to favorable weather and ongoing support for producers as factors behind the growth.

Both developments underscore the sector’s expanding economic role while also exposing it to rising input costs from international markets.
