Haluk Levent's Ahbap Foundation under investigation for alleged financial misconduct

Istanbul prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into Ahbap Derneği, the disaster‑relief foundation founded by singer Haluk Levent. The probe began after the detention of Levent's brother, Berkant Acil, over alleged irregularities in Shile municipality cultural‑festival contracts, where invoices for concerts were reported to be many times higher than the payments actually made to artists. Documents reviewed by the court include claims of 125 million TL in suspicious transfers and a MASAK report that 245 million USD was raised through Ahbap during the February‑March 2023 earthquakes.

Investigators have seized WhatsApp chats and audio recordings that show debt‑related discussions, threats, and accusations that Ahbap’s funds were funneled to gambling and other illegal activities. Several public figures – including lawyer Mehmet Söğüt, gallery owner Mehmet Ulu, journalist Fatih Portakal, and actress Hazal Kaya – have been called to give statements, most denying personal or commercial ties to Levent or the foundation.

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek confirmed the case started with Acil’s arrest and warned that the inquiry could widen, citing “incredible” debt notes and the involvement of numerous companies linked to Levent. The investigation continues as authorities examine contracts, bank transfers, and alleged misuse of charitable donations.
