Turkey deepens ties with Uzbekistan as US President Trump plans Ankara visit

Turkey’s foreign outreach advanced on two fronts. In Tashkent, AK Party deputy chairman and Turkish‑states‑relations chief Kürşad Zorlu met Uzbekistan President Saida Mirziyoyeva and Liberal Democratic Party leader Aktam Haitov. The talks covered strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, expanding cooperation within the Turkic world, preserving shared historical heritage and preparing for the upcoming Turkish‑States Organization summit, with a possible visit by President Erdoğan later in the year.

Separately, US President Donald Trump announced a scheduled visit to Ankara. Turkish officials said the meeting will review the full spectrum of US‑Turkey relations, including defence, trade and investment, and could address the possible lifting of CAATSA sanctions. The visit is being watched for its impact on regional dynamics, including Israeli concerns over Turkish military procurement.
