Turkey's BDDK reports credit‑card complaints double in 2025

The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) said that complaints about credit cards and bank services more than doubled in 2025, reaching 26,537 submissions. Total applications to the regulator grew to 231,664 that year after falling to 178,108 in 2024. The agency attributes the surge to the restructuring regulation that took effect on 10 July 2025, which prompted a sharp rise in “postponement/restructuring” requests (from 9,336 in 2024 to 18,638 in 2025) and a comparable increase in complaints from commercial customers (5,716 to 10,154).

Other complaint categories also rose, including enforcement‑related filings (to 10,926) and requests for credit‑score or limit adjustments. Fraud‑related complaints fell slightly, from 19,411 in 2024 to 17,602 in 2025. In response, BDDK issued administrative fines to seven banks that failed to meet call‑center service standards, and prepared 80 monitoring reports for 2025.
