Turkey's beekeeping sector sees rise in young and white-collar participants

Government subsidies in Turkey are driving increased interest in the beekeeping sector among young entrepreneurs and white-collar professionals. Kekeçoğlu, director of the Düzce University Beekeeping Research, Development and Application Center (DAGEM), noted that these incentives aim to modernize the industry through more technological and conscious methods.

While honey remains the primary focus for consumers, Kekeçoğlu emphasized the need to support the production and value-added processing of other bee products. He attributed the recent increase in honey yields not only to favorable climate conditions but also to the professionalization and rejuvenation of the workforce. Additionally, efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to combat imitation and adulteration have contributed to rising quality standards. Turkey remains a leading country globally in terms of total honey yield and hive numbers.
