Turkey's BIK and DAKA plan digital boost for Van's local media

Press Announcement Agency (BIK) Van Region Director Kenan Tokgöz met with Eastern Anatolia Development Agency (DAKA) Secretary Mehmet Emin Çakay to discuss the state of local newspapers and online news sites in Van and the wider region. The talks focused on the media sector’s technological transformation and identified needs such as upgraded technical infrastructure, printing standards, layout and visual design, editorial processes, content quality, corporate management and digital services.

Both agencies explored cooperative projects, including training on artificial‑intelligence‑enhanced journalism, data journalism, source verification and digital sustainability. They considered involving the Vangölü Journalists Association and continuing drone‑training initiatives. A proposed “Van’s Pens” project aims to combine the region’s cultural heritage with modern publishing and communication tools, strengthening the capacity and digital adaptation of local media.
