Turkey's Black Sea Region Extends Palamut Fishing Ban Until Aug 15, 2026
The provincial directorates of Agriculture and Forestry in Trabzon and Sinop, Turkey, announced that the ban on catching palamut (horse mackerel) in the Black Sea will remain in effect until the evening of 15 August 2026. The restriction targets juvenile palamut to ensure they can reproduce at least once, aiming to protect future fish stocks and sustain the region’s fisheries.
Authorities warned that any violation of the ban will be prosecuted under existing legislation. Both directorates urged commercial and recreational fishers to comply with size limits, gear rules, and to release any caught juveniles, emphasizing the importance of sustainable fishing practices for long‑term yields.
