Turkey's CHP slams Greek‑Israeli air‑defence deal, calls for Ankara’s strong response

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) of Turkey, represented by deputy chairman for defence Janik Bagcioglu, condemned the planned Greek air‑defence system being built with Israeli assistance, valued at about €4 billion. He stated that the agreement is “not only a military threat but also a violation of international law” and argued it could upset the balance of power in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.

Bagcioglu warned that radar and surveillance installations on Greek islands would allow continuous aerial monitoring even in peacetime, and that linking Israeli systems with those of Greece and Cyprus would deepen trilateral military cooperation. He urged the Turkish government to launch diplomatic initiatives and raise the issue on the international stage, reiterating Turkey’s long‑standing protest against the militarisation of the Greek islands.
