Turkey's Climate Chief Murat Kurum Highlights COP31 Priorities at London Events

Turkey's Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, who also serves as COP31 President, attended the Turkey Energy Transition Investment Forum in London. He emphasised Turkey’s rapid growth in renewable‑energy capacity, progress on electrification and the construction of zero‑energy, zero‑waste homes built after the February earthquakes, noting a 39% energy‑saving benefit for residents. Kurum outlined the COP31 Action Agenda, focusing on electrification, green industrialisation, circular economy, resilient cities, climate finance and food security, and called for a global target of 35% electrification by 2035.

On the same day, Kurum joined a high‑level climate reception hosted by King Charles III at St James’s Palace. The gathering included UK Energy Security Minister Ed Miliband, UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. Kurum presented Turkey’s COP31 roadmap and invited the international community to the upcoming COP31 summit in Antalya in November.
