Turkey's Defence Ministry says S‑400 work continues amid third‑country sales talks

The Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB) repeatedly stated that work on the Russian‑built S‑400 long‑range air‑defence system is ongoing and that concrete developments will be shared with the public when available. The ministry also rejected the European Parliament’s resolution on the 1974 Cyprus peace operation as “baseless and absurd” and reaffirmed Turkey’s guarantee role in Cyprus.

Officials noted that discussions are under way about the possible transfer of the S‑400s to a third country, with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar mentioned as potential buyers. No final decision has been announced, and Russia is said to be involved in any approval process. The issue is linked to the United States’ CAATSA sanctions and the suspension of Turkey’s F‑35 programme; the ministry indicated that resolving the S‑400 matter could clear the way for Turkey’s return to the F‑35 project.

In Washington, Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said the “obstacle” to the F‑35 programme is nearing removal, signalling a possible breakthrough in the S‑400‑related dispute. Across the statements, the ministry emphasised that the S‑400 work remains “multifaceted” and that further details will be disclosed as they materialise.
