Dermatologists caution against social‑media anti‑aging fads
Social media has popularised a surge of anti‑aging treatments, devices and quick‑fix promises. Dermatology experts warn that these trends are not suitable for everyone and may misrepresent the natural ageing process.
Dr. Elif Afacan Yıldırım explains that skin ageing involves collagen loss, reduced elasticity, pigmentation changes and volume loss, and that choosing safe, scientific, personalised solutions is essential. She describes three frequently advertised procedures: thread lifting, which stimulates the skin’s own collagen; fractional radio‑frequency (often called “golden needle”), which improves collagen production and reduces pores; and salmon DNA applications, which support moisture, brightness and texture without immediate lifting effects.
The experts stress the importance of evidence‑based treatments over fast‑acting “miracle” claims promoted online.
