Turkey's Disaster Management Council launches national aerial aid and evacuation system

In its first 2026 meeting, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Council (Afet ve Acil Durum Kurulu) was chaired by Deputy Interior Minister Dr. Mehmet Cangir. The council, attended by senior officials including AFAD President Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, approved the start of a nationwide aerial aid and evacuation system to be implemented jointly by the Ministry of National Defense and AFAD.

The meeting also covered the identification of risky structures under Law No. 6306 and outlined actions under the Turkey Post‑Disaster Recovery Plan (TASİP). Officials emphasized that the initiatives aim to enhance citizen safety and move toward the "Ready and Resilient Turkey" goal, coordinating efforts across ministries and public agencies.
