Turkey's Diyanet spends 89 billion lira in first half of 2026

In the January‑June 2026 period, the Presidency, the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and the Communication Presidency together expended a total of 100.358 billion Turkish lira, averaging about 554.5 million lira per day. Diyanet alone accounted for 88.934 billion lira, representing roughly 88.6 % of the combined outlay.

The Presidency's share was 8.487 billion lira and the Communication Presidency spent 2.937 billion lira. Diyanet's annual spending had been 91.824 billion lira in 2024 and is projected at 130.119 billion lira for 2025, so the six‑month figure already equals about 68 % of the previous year's total. The figures have revived debate over fiscal priorities, budget discipline and the allocation of public resources amid ongoing economic challenges.
