Turkey's Ministry of National Education prepares lawsuit against Meta

Turkey's Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, has announced that the Ministry is preparing legal action against Meta. The decision stems from concerns that content on platforms like Facebook and Instagram is unsuitable for children's age and pedagogical development, potentially harming their academic and personal growth.

Tekin noted that while other ministries, such as Trade, Industry, and Transport, hold primary regulatory authority over social media, the Ministry of National Education is taking this step to demonstrate a firm stance on protecting students. He urged social media companies and content creators to ensure that materials are either inaccessible to children or modified to be harmless.

In addition to the legal preparations, the Minister discussed school safety measures, including the deployment of security personnel and coordination with law enforcement. The announcement comes amid broader discussions in Turkey regarding social media access restrictions for minors and the impact of digital content on youth behavior.
