Turkey's Education Ministry and Red Crescent launch disaster‑awareness workshop for children
The Ministry of National Education (MEB) and the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) jointly organized a workshop titled “Oyunlarla Afet Farkındalık Eğitimi İçerik Değerlendirme ve Uygulama Kılavuzu Hazırlama Çalıştayı.” Deputy Minister of Education Cihad Demirli opened the event, emphasizing that early‑age disaster awareness is the most effective way to reduce risks and prevent loss of life. The workshop evaluated ten educational games across themes for pedagogical suitability, curriculum alignment and practical implementation. The aim is to teach preschool and primary‑school students disaster‑management procedures through play, fostering safe‑behaviour reflexes and the ability to analyse environmental risks. Representatives from MEB, volunteer teachers, and various institutions participated to develop a guide for integrating these game‑based modules into schools.
The initiative is part of Turkey’s broader “Turkey Century Education Model” and seeks to embed a culture of disaster preparedness from early childhood onward, strengthening societal resilience.
