Turkey's Education Ministry Revamps Curriculum, Eliminates Technology and Design Course

The Turkish Ministry of National Education announced a comprehensive curriculum reform affecting nine subjects in middle schools and high schools. Starting in the 2026‑2027 academic year, the Technology and Design course, mandatory since 2018, will be removed from middle‑school programs, with the change phased in from 7th grade and the old syllabus phased out completely. The reform also revises the timetable for physics, chemistry, biology, geography, mathematics, Turkish language and literature, history and philosophy, and the Atatürkist History course. For high schools, the new schedule will apply to grades 9‑11 in 2026‑2027 and be extended to grade 12 in 2027‑2028, completing the transition across all levels. The Ministry’s Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu approved the changes after recommendations from relevant directorates, aiming to modernise education and streamline subject offerings.
