Turkey's power capacity hits 125,598 MW, renewables over 78,000 MW

On World Renewable Energy Day, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that Turkey’s total installed electricity capacity reached 125,598 megawatts, of which 78,561 megawatts (62.6%) come from renewable sources.

Renewable generation now includes more than 42,000 megawatts from wind and solar combined—wind at 15,122 MW (12% of total) and solar at 26,899 MW (21.4%). Hydro‑electric production set a new record in May, delivering 11.71 billion kilowatt‑hours and accounting for 43.1% of that month’s electricity generation.

Domestic (local) generation accounted for 85% of total electricity output, while renewable generation represented 72.3% of total generation for the January‑May period. Bayraktar said, “We have left an important threshold behind… we will continue to invest decisively in our native and clean energy sources to achieve a greener world and full energy independence for Turkey.”
