Turkey EV charging electricity consumption up 153% in H1 2026

In the first six months of 2026, Turkey's electric‑vehicle charging electricity use rose 153.5 % year‑on‑year to 392,252 megawatt‑hours. During this period, charging operators performed 15.4 million charging transactions, amounting to 17 million hours of charging time. The number of public charging points reached 45,660, comprising 19,903 DC fast‑chargers, 25,731 AC chargers and 26 mobile units.

The growth mirrors a rapid increase in electric‑vehicle registrations, which climbed over 122 % to about 440,000 vehicles. The regulator, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), noted that the charging‑point fleet grew from 12,084 at the start of 2024 to an expected 26,462 by early 2025, and to the current 45,660 in early 2026. EPDK officials said the expanding infrastructure aims to support the fast‑growing EV market while ensuring a stable electricity grid.
