Turkey's expanding NATO role fuels Greek anxiety ahead of summit

Greek General Yannis Baltzois warned that Europe increasingly relies on Turkey for security and said NATO will hand over strategic command centers in Adana and the Bosphorus to Turkish control as part of a new “NATO 3.0” plan. He claimed this shift threatens Greek interests and could upset regional balances, especially around Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean.

At the same time, Greek media reported that the long‑standing US lobbying effort for Greece is weakening under the Trump administration, which has accelerated defence cooperation with Turkey, including the sale of F‑110 engines for Turkey’s TF‑X fighter program. The shift has created tensions within the US Congress, where a Greek‑oriented lobby group says its influence is waning.

Both developments highlight growing Greek concerns over Turkey’s rising influence within NATO and shifting US policy toward the region ahead of the July NATO summit in Ankara.
