Turkey's Finance Minister addresses financial integrity and economic production

Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek addressed international media during a meeting regarding the 2027-2029 Medium-Term Program. Şimşek dismissed speculations regarding the exchange rate regime and emphasized Turkey's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its financial system. He stated that Turkey is determined to combat terrorism financing, money laundering, and illegal financial activities, ensuring all companies operate in compliance with national legislation.

Regarding international sanctions, Şimşek noted that Turkey maintains a framework for natural gas payments that complies with U.S. regulations. He specifically mentioned that when importing natural gas from Iran, payments are handled through an agreement with the United States to ensure compliance.

Separately, economic discussions highlight the necessity of a production-based economy to combat stagflation—the combination of rising prices and economic stagnation. Experts suggest that increasing high-value-added production through technology, R&D, and vocational training is essential to boost employment, tax revenue, and social security, while stabilizing the trade deficit.
