Turkey's food and dairy prices rise sharply in June

Bursa’s municipal utility BESAŞ raised the prices of milk, yoghurt, cheese and ayran in early June, applying an average increase of about 21%. The most notable hike was on strained yoghurt, whose price climbed from 90 TL to 119.90 TL per 900 g, while a litre of ayran rose to 49.90 TL.

A separate analysis by the Birleşik Kamu‑İş research unit showed that Turkey’s overall food price basket grew 1.9 % month‑on‑month in June 2026 and 59.5 % over the past year. Vegetables surged 10.7 % and fruits 2.7 % in the month, with six‑month increases of 63.4 % for vegetables and 80 % for fruit. Wage growth lagged behind, eroding real purchasing power by roughly 45 % and heightening poverty risks.
