Turkey's Foundations Directorate holds circumcision celebrations in Bursa and Ankara
The General Directorate of Foundations, under Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, organized traditional circumcision festivals in Bursa and Ankara as part of a nationwide program covering 81 provinces. In Bursa, 25 boys were circumcised at the historic Tophane Square, fulfilling the 530‑year‑old charitable condition set by Sultan Bayezid II. The ceremony featured performances by the Bursa Mehteran Association, a semazen troupe, and prayers led by the Bursa provincial mufti.
In Ankara, 80 children—30 from foster homes and 50 orphans—participated in a similar event, visiting local mosques and historic sites, and receiving gifts such as bicycles. The Ankara celebration contributed to a total of 1,963 children receiving free circumcision support across 69 cities in 2024, with the program also providing food, shelter, and educational aid to needy families.
Both events highlight the continuation of a centuries‑old endowment tradition while offering social assistance to vulnerable children.
