Turkey's TMO Announces 2026/27 Hazelnut Purchase Prices
The Toprak Mahsulleri Office (TMO) announced the purchase prices for the 2026/27 hazelnut season. Under the 50 % solid‑inside nut basis, Giresun‑quality hazelnuts will be bought at 255 TL per kilogram and Levant‑quality at 250 TL per kilogram; some releases also list Sivri‑quality at 245 TL/kg. For nuts exceeding a 50 % yield, an extra payment of 5.10 TL per kilogram for each additional percentage point will be added to Giresun‑quality, and 5.00 TL for Levant‑quality. The buying campaign will start on 24 August 2026, with reservations opening on 17 August through TMO offices, the e‑Devlet portal or the TMO website. TMO confirmed that technical infrastructure, storage capacity, personnel and financing preparations are complete.
Reactions to the announced prices were mixed. Several producers and agricultural unions said the base price is far below production costs, calling it a “death decree” and arguing it benefits foreign processors such as Ferrero. Some politicians, including a member of the İYİ Party, demanded a minimum base price of 320 TL. While the prices represent a roughly 25 % increase over the previous year, critics note they still lag behind inflation and input cost rises.
