Turkey's healthcare system reaches global model status, says Minister

Turkish Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu announced during the opening ceremony of Samsun City Hospital that the nation's healthcare system has reached a level that serves as a global model. He highlighted a significant transformation in the sector, emphasizing that Turkey is increasingly developing its own medicines, vaccines, and medical devices to reduce foreign dependency.

Memişoğlu noted that advanced medical procedures, such as open-heart surgeries, liver transplants, and complex surgical applications, are no longer confined to major metropolitan areas but are now successfully performed in various cities including Siirt, Malatya, and Van. This decentralization allows citizens to access high-quality care within their own provinces.

Regarding the medical industry, the Minister stated that the ratio of medical device exports to imports has risen to 43 percent. Ongoing domestic developments include work on CAR-T cell therapy, mobile digital X-ray devices, and various diagnostic kits. The government aims to establish the health industry as a locomotive sector for the national economy.
