Turkey's household debt reaches record 6.48 trillion lira

Turkey's total personal loan and credit‑card debt rose to 6 trillion 483 billion lira by the week of 19 June, split between 3 trillion 319 billion lira in loans and 3 trillion 162 billion lira in credit‑card balances. In the first half of the year, debt grew by 907 billion 188 million lira.

Debts in legal collection now exceed 440 billion lira, including 312 billion lira of overdue receivables and 132 billion lira of non‑performing assets held by investment‑management firms. Enforcement and bankruptcy courts recorded a record 25 million 419 thousand 757 active files as of 27 June, after 4 million 929 thousand new cases were opened since January, indicating a mounting burden on the judicial system despite many closures.
