Turkey's Industry Minister Promotes Green Transformation and Polar Book

Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır emphasized that green transformation and zero‑waste practices are central to Turkey’s industrial competitiveness. He noted that 43 % of Turkey’s exports go to the EU and that the EU Green Deal will require firm‑level emission reporting, starting with steel, cement and plastic sectors. The ministry outlined a $70 billion investment roadmap for steel, aluminium, cement and fertilizer industries to meet the 2053 net‑zero target.

Kacır also highlighted the $450 million Turkey Green Industry Project, with KOSGEB allocating $250 million and TÜBİTAK $175 million to support solar energy and circular‑economy initiatives for SMEs. In conjunction with the Zero Waste Foundation and TÜBİTAK, the ministry launched the book “Kutuplarda Sıfır Atık,” showcasing how polar research can be integrated with zero‑waste principles. The publication reflects Turkey’s ongoing Antarctic expeditions since 2017 and Arctic missions since 2019, underscoring the country’s role in climate‑focused scientific work.
