Turkey card payments jump 50% to 2.9 trillion lira in June
The Interbank Card Center (BKM) reported that total card‑based payments in Turkey reached 2.867 trillion lira in June 2026, a 50 % year‑on‑year increase. The number of payment transactions rose 14 % to 1.9 billion.
Credit‑card volume grew 53 % to 2.4637 trillion lira, bank‑card volume rose 37 % to 396.2 billion lira, while prepaid‑card volume fell 35 % to 7.8 billion lira. The total number of cards in circulation grew 4 % to 471.7 million, comprising 150.4 million credit cards, 221.6 million bank cards and 99.7 million prepaid cards.
Online card payments surged 60 % to 891.6 billion lira, representing 31 % of total card spending, with transaction counts up 17 % to 260.7 million. Contactless payments continued to dominate in‑store, accounting for four out of every five transactions; the number of contactless transactions rose 13 % to 1.3007 billion and their value increased 45 % to 939.3 billion lira.
