Akın Gürlek announces judicial reforms and addresses crime investigations

Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek has announced several initiatives aimed at improving access to justice for vulnerable groups. These measures include the creation of specialized judicial interview rooms for children and victims to prevent secondary trauma, as well as the establishment of specialized investigation bureaus for domestic violence and child crimes. Additionally, digital services are being expanded to assist individuals with disabilities.

Regarding organized crime, Minister Gürlek addressed the investigation into the Alihan Kuriş Criminal Organization. He emphasized that the state’s fight against gangs is based on legal principles and is not targeted at any specific religious or social identity. He stated that religious values and beliefs cannot be used as a shield or tool for criminal activities, such as money laundering and corruption, while reaffirming the state's commitment to protecting freedom of worship.

Separately, the Adalet Peşinde Aileleri Platformu (Families Chasing Justice Platform) has raised concerns regarding the legal proceedings following the February 6 earthquakes. Representative Celal Gezer criticized the perceived lack of justice in earthquake-related lawsuits, citing instances where individuals identified as primarily at fault were released and noting delays in court decisions for cases involving significant loss of life.
