Turkey's KAAN fighter jet program receives US engine support
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is advancing the development of the KAAN, a fifth-generation fighter jet intended to establish Turkey as a major global defense manufacturer. The project aims to produce a stealth aircraft featuring reduced radar signatures, modern sensors, and networked avionics.
A critical hurdle for the program has been the procurement of engines. The United States government has recently moved to authorize the sale of GE-F110 engines to Turkey, providing a necessary component for the aircraft's initial series production and testing phases.
Following the first successful flight of the P0 prototype in February 2024, TAI is currently conducting roll tests on a second prototype. TAI CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu indicated that the P1 prototype could potentially fly within the coming months.
