Turkey holds multiple local celebrations for July 24 Press and Journalist Day
Across Turkey, municipalities and media organisations marked July 24 – the national Press and Journalist Day – with a series of local events.
In Kayseri, the Kayseri Journalists Association presented the Erciyes Media Awards to journalists and media professionals, with attendance by prominent media figures such as Murat Yancı and Fulya Öztürk.
In Istanbul’s Ataşehir district, the mayor’s office hosted a breakfast for local press, where officials discussed the district’s projects and the challenges faced by journalists.
Kahramanmaraş Mayor Fırat Görgel travelled to Ankara to meet Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı, reviewing agricultural development plans for the city.
In İzmir, a public distribution of traditional “kar helvası” was organized to honor journalists who died in the line of duty, drawing crowds to Konak Square.
Antalya’s Corendon Hotels & Resorts hosted a breakfast for members of the Antalya Journalists Association in Kemer, with speeches from municipal leaders and the hotel’s corporate communications director.
In İskenderun, Mayor Mehmet Dönmez inaugurated the renovated “Family Village” social centre with a press breakfast, highlighting new family‑friendly facilities.
Finally, Bartın’s Chamber of Commerce President Halil Balık led a press gathering to discuss the city’s economic outlook, port depth issues and future investment corridors.
All events were tied to the national commemoration of press freedom and the contributions of journalists.
