Turkey's Labor Ministry reports 143,329 unregistered workplaces uncovered in 12 years

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Turkey says that between 30 June 2014 and 30 June 2026 it examined 43,628,631 documents and identified 143,329 unregistered workplaces. The Social Security Institution inspected 1,426,878 workplaces, finding 592,195 workers employed without registration. The inspections generated 1,423,543,897,000 TRY in premium contributions and 15,260,258,873,000 TRY in administrative fines.

To strengthen enforcement, the ministry created 16 inter‑agency data‑sharing protocols and sent 107,604 warning letters to employers deemed at risk from 2019 to 2025. It also carried out 25,904 informational activities, reaching 234,476 individuals directly, and sent 4,533,147 SMS alerts to workers whose primary earnings fell by more than 20 % between November 2017 and May 2026.
