Turkey's 2026 grape and hazelnut harvests await TMO price decisions
Turkey’s agricultural producers are anticipating price guidance from the Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi (TMO) for the 2026 harvest season. Manisa Trade Exchange President Sadık Özkasap said the dry‑grape (kuru üzüm) rekolte is set to rise sharply, with the 2025‑2026 season projected at about 164 000 tonnes in the Aegean region and 148 000 tonnes in Manisa. He noted that 153 000 tonnes of dry grapes were exported in the 2024‑2025 season, bringing roughly $546 million in foreign exchange, and that producers are looking for a regulatory price from TMO rather than a simple floor price.
In the district of Sarıgöl, the first 2026 dry‑grape batch was dried and bagged in just six days thanks to unusually hot weather, prompting growers to urge a swift price announcement. Meanwhile, hazelnut growers across the Black Sea region are also awaiting TMO’s official purchase price. Hazelnut trader Mehmet Koçak warned that early harvesting can reduce yield and quality, and the agency has not yet released a 2026 price. Economist Şinasi Kara has called for a support price of $7 per kilogram to sustain the sector. The lack of a confirmed price is creating uncertainty for both grape and hazelnut producers as the new season approaches.
