Turkey's May Card Payments Surge 32% to 2.6 trillion TL
The Interbank Card Centre (BKM) reported that in May Turkey's card‑payment volume reached 2.633,6 billion Turkish lira, a 32 percent increase over the same month last year. The total number of card transactions rose 7 percent to 1.9 billion. Four out of every five in‑store payments were made contact‑less, and online card payments grew 19 percent year‑on‑year to 740,4 billion lira, accounting for 28 percent of total volume.
Card counts stood at 149 million credit cards, 216,6 million bank cards and 99,1 million prepaid cards, bringing the total number of cards in circulation to 464,7 million, a 3 percent rise from the previous year.
